Chanda turned to her, watching her with a knowing look, but still, he pretended he didn’t. “You would know more than I, Tali.” There were a few moments a silence before Chanda let out a groan in frustration.
“Do you have any idea how much I hate having to sit here Tali?” He snapped, he didn’t mean to, he just wriggled in his seat, wanting to rise, but he gripped at his hair, wanting to pull it out. He took out the pocket watch, took the chain off the belt and placed it on the table. Thunder lit up the room, and the thunder that followed made the whole building shake. For a moment there was a look of horror in his eyes. He instantly got up and limped over to the window. “That must’ve hit not too far away… “ Chanda fell against the corner of the window, sighing heavily. He knew there were buildings made of metal not too far away, he hoped no one was hurt, not that he could do anything about it. He was in pain, more from the bruises than the actual wounds, but he put it aside. The rain was harder than ever, why did it have to rain and drop all of the water all in one go?
He missed the marshes on Vetusolum. He was quiet for a moment. “Do you ever think of going home Tali? Just leaving me, and just heading home, or perhaps even going travelling again. I’ve often thought of it. I’ve never been able to get my feet off the ground in recent years…”

Tali ran a hand over her head at his frustration. ”I know Chanda…” she said in a low voice. *But if you don’t take it easy now and then you’ll wear yourself out, and then you won’t be able to help anyone* she wanted to add, but knew it would be pointless. Chanda wasn’t stupid, he knew it already, even if he couldn’t see it just now. Tali jumped a bit as the building shook, and sighed afterwards. She would never get use to Sukiltis weather, or rather, its combination of weather and building structure. The way the massive buildings shook, knowing that it would definitely kill her if the building fell, gave her the chills.
Tali put her glass down beside her chair, but didn’t answer Chanda right away. ”The thought have crossed my mind” she finally said, ”But I always end up with the same conclusion” she added getting up from the chair. She slowly walked up to the window ”It would be nice to visit my parents and all, but this is my home now. And honestly I didn’t enjoy the trip here THAT much” she admitted as she stopped at the window beside Chanda. A smile appeared on her face ”Besides, if I just left there wouldn’t be anyone to look out for you!” she said teasingly.

Chanda laughed at her. “Quite, quite.” Lightning struck the ground, blinding them for a second. “Bloody hell!” He groaned looking out into the city again. This was her home now, Chanda smiled a little at the thought. That’s how he saw this place too, despite his longing to be a father too his daughter. Fourteen years old, he wondered whether she looked like him. Perhaps she was a troublemaker like him too. It wouldn’t be too long before she sought him out. It wouldn’t be too long before he had to face his biggest secrets. She might also call someone dad, she might not even know about him.
“How exactly did you get here Tali? Not that I want to pry or anything, but you never really said…” He smiled, sitting on the window ledge. The thunder mercilessly hit the ground again, showing that the storm wasn’t going anywhere. Chanda knew he wasn’t going to get any sleep tonight. Not unless he finished the bottle, but that would risk letting out something, or perhaps even doing something incredibly stupid. Chanda didn’t like the sound of either. The pain flared up on his leg, and he sighed heavily. He’d have to start training again. That would mean getting out all of his old stuff out of the hidden room, the one room in the building, Tali had no idea about.

Tali jumped again as the lightning struck, placing a hand on her chest she could feel her heart beating faster. She couldn’t imagine how some people could find thunder cozy. If was by far the worst of weathers a person could be out in!
Tali didn’t look at Chanda when he asked how she got there, but just stared out in the rain. ”It pretty simple really. Hitched a ride with a merchant, and ended up here” she answered plainly, but her eyes reviled that there was more than that to it. She owed Chanda too much to lie to him, but she still couldn’t tell him everything. It was not because there was any danger linked to it or anything, she simply couldn’t get herself to say it. Maybe it was because she couldn’t really explain it to herself, maybe she was embarrassed. Tali honestly didn’t know. What she did know was, that she had left for him. In later years she had realized what is was about him that had fascinated her so. He had been different. ”What about yourself?” she then asked. She knew she properly wouldn’t get an answer, but she would rather have that, than just believing all the lose rumors.

“There is one part in those rumours that are true.” He began. “I did spend a lot of my time stranded in a forest on this planet, with my ex-wife. I won’t give you the details, not that you expect me to give you them… Basically I made her pregnant, whilst we were stranded and we got married shortly afterwards.”
Chanda sighed deeply, getting to his feet, walking over to the table and picking up his pocket watch. The ticking echoed in the room, seeming louder than everything else. “I agreed to come back my wife to Patria, as I didn’t really have anything to go after what happened, and she had our baby on the way. Adelaide Rellusio, she was the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen… I…” Chanda stopped, looking down at the pocket watch. The ticking, it never stopped, just continued on. “I held her in my arms for the rest of the way. When we got back, I found myself in Caitlyn’s lifestyle, a rich, upper class lifestyle. The pampered, lazy, easy life, not something I was used to. I tried to settle, I did for our child, but it just… Wasn’t any good. It was then I saw the aid mission for this planet. And after an extensive argument, however one sided it was, I decided to go…” He huffed a little more, holding the watch tight. “She asked me to stay one more week, and I did… On the seventh day, just before I left, she placed this in my hand.” He held up the pocket watch. “She told me in these exact words… ‘This is to remind you what you gave away.’” Chanda took Tali’s hand and placed the pocket watch in her hand, so she could feel the ticking in her hands. Chanda knew the ticking wouldn’t be as loud to other people as it was to him; it wasn’t constantly in their mind. “It ticks so much, because it’s the heartbeat of my baby girl.”
The thunder hit again. “I’ve been here ever since…”

Tali followed Chanda with her eyes as he talked, afraid he might stop if she said anything or breathed too heavily and so she just listened. She had always thought that the rumors held some truth, and as Chanda reviled his story, she saw that she had been right. The basics of the story and his whereabouts seemed to have been spot on. But why lie, when you could just make the truth seem unlikely? As Chanda placed the watch in her hand, she could feel it ticking, beating, like her own, but with a different rhythm. She nodded slightly, to let him know that she felt it, before she handed it back to him. She couldn’t help but feel a bit proud. Proud that he trusted her enough to tell her of his daughter. Yes, she had already heard of the child through the rumors, but it was different coming from him. It was as close to the truth as she would ever get. ”Thank you..” she said in a low voice after a few seconds of silence. ”I know it’s none of my business but.. She will come looking for you. If she has the slightest clue to where she can find you, she will come… Sooner or later she will come for you” she said slowly. Her voice was strange as she talked, like she was saying them as much to herself as to him. It was no secret that Tali had been raised by humans, and never known her true parents herself.

“I hope she does… But she’s around fourteen now… That’s a lot of years I’d have to make up to her.” Chanda sighed. The rumours around be, they are mostly for her than anyone else. My reputation is different in each circle… I couldn’t risk building myself up to be someone I not, and so I let the rumours spread, so that when she hears of me, she won’t be able to build me up to be something I’m not through confliction.” Chanda smiled, looking a bit at her. There was a strike of lightning in the distance, the storm was finally moving, allowing the city to settle for the night,
“If I am to die, Tali, which it is looking increasingly like I will in the coming years, you will be the only person able to enlighten her.” He sighed, focusing on the horizon. “One day, I will tell you all my secrets, the good and the bad. You’ll get this place to do with as you wish, but you must promise me that if I die before my daughter arrives, that you will tell her everything.” It was a morbid subject, but he had no choice, Tali was as close to a next of kin as he got on this planet. She was the only person who he’d trust to hold his secrets. He wouldn’t tell her just yet. There was still much to be done. It was almost as if he had given up, but that wasn’t the case, instead he was just planning for every eventuality.

”It seems like a long time, but she’s still young” Tali said with a little smile and placed a hand on his shoulder ”You’ll have plenty of time to make it up to her” she gave his shoulder a slight squeeze before letting go again. Hell, she was twice as old herself, and she was ready to forgive her real parents if they showed up – and they didn’t just leave her but, from what she had been told, had left her to die. Another detail she had left out when she had told Chanda about her past.
A stubborn, almost angry look appeared in Talis eyes. ”I won’t tell her shit” she said, crossing her arms. ”Because you’ll be here and tell her yourself! You can’t run out, get yourself killed and just rub this off on me! You’re going to tell her yourself. You owe her that much” she said in a voice harder than intended. But he couldn’t go to his death leaving his daughter behind. Tali wouldn’t let him!

Chanda looked at her, tilting his head a bit at her angry expression. He was almost amused by her tone. “Is that so… What are you gonna do, be my knight in shining armour and keep me from dying?” He smirked, folding his arms as he watched her. He looked into her eyes, seeing the stubborn anger.
“I’m sure you will have to put up with me for the long haul Tali, don’t worry, I don’t plan on dying any time soon… But there has to be a plan in case it doesn’t pan out in the way I want it to… I fully plan on seeing my beautiful daughter, don’t worry…” He smiled, patting her shoulder a little, before walking across the room and sitting on the lounge chair. The watch disappeared into his pocket and he relaxed against the back rest. He poured himself a drink to think of happier things. “We… we need to get better drink. Tomorrow, we’ll go to the brewery, they usually have better stuff on this time of the year. If that is alright? My leg isn’t THAT bad that we can’t do business…” He narrowed his eyes at her, his stubbornness. He wasn’t going to let up on it, she’d either have to go with him, or he would go anyway. He knew which one she’d pick.

Tali wasn’t Chandas daughter, but she knew how she would feel if her own father had left her clues to find him by, and she then found him dead. ”You shouldn’t need one” she replied sharply, meeting his eyes.
Tali nodded abit, and followed Chanda back to the chairs. ”Good, that’s settled then” she said before sitting down again with a smile. She couldn’t help but feel relieved when he changed the subject. All that talk of his death made her nervous. ”Lets do that then” she said, knowing it would be pointless to argue with him. ”Last I saw Timothy, he told me they had something good brewing. Think that would be done about now” she added with a smile. Tali couldn’t help but smile when she thought of Timothy. He was the brewer’s assistant, and good as the day was long. Furthermore he had a thing for Tali, and never wasted a chance to try and impress her. She had always been straight forward with him, and told him it wasn’t going to happen, but that has just seemed to make him more determined. He was so sure he could win her over eventually, that he sometimes convinced her of it too.

He smiled at her sharp reply, and wished that was true. He did though. With the secrets he kept, he needed plans, he needed to make sure all those close to him, Tali and his daughter, would be alright after his death. Everything had been sorted, for now…
Chanda began to grin like a Cheshire cat as she spoke of Timothy. “Ohhh is he still working there?” He smirked playfully. He knew she wasn’t interested in the boy; however he couldn’t resist a chance to tease her about it. Tomorrow would prove to be an enjoyable occasion. He pondered about teasing her about it now, but he’d leave it until Timothy was there, and he could kill two birds with one stone. He wondered how Timothy would try to charm her this time. Chanda always found it hilarious, but always pretended not to notice, he’d pretend to be busy with Timothy’s boss. The boss of the place was a nice man; Chanda often played cards with him over negotiations. Of course, Chanda always made sure he lost to charm the man, and the man knew it. He went quiet, pondering on whether Timothy would ever succeed in his attempts, Chanda doubted it, but there was always a chance…

Tali nodded, still smiling ”He is, thought only barely! I still don’t know how he managed to talk his way back in, after his last stunt!” she said, giggling abit at the thought. He had almost destroyed half a years work, trying off his ‘secret ingredient’. Tali had never seen any man as mad as his boss had been that day! Under normal conditions she liked Timothys boss, even though he didn’t care much for her company… at least not when Timothy was there, and suppose to do something.
As silence again fell over the room, Tali turned her head and looked out the window while she fiddled slightly with her left head-tail. Suppressing a yawn she let her mind wonder, pondering over the subjects that they had already been over, and wondering what had actually happened to him out in the rain. Maybe some secret deal gone wrong? Maybe he was really a criminal, and ran into the police? There was a lot of maybes, but only one answer, and Chanda was the only one to hold it.

Chanda chewed on his lips absentmindedly, and instant winced at his foolishness. “Ouch.” He muttered, before turning to her. He could tell she was tired. He smiled a little at her. “Perhaps you should retire for this evening… Don’t worry, I’ll go too… I’m kind of worn out, and I need to rest these bruises.” Chanda made his way across the room, discretely grabbing onto the furniture as he went.
“Make sure you dress up for Timothy tomorrow~” he teased. He stopped for a moment as he took a hold of the door handle and sighed heavily. He took the chance to curse himself before heading out of the door. It was then he realised the only support he’d have was the wall. He moved down the hall, pressed against the wall for support, knowing Tali would be out of the room in a few seconds. He grimaced at the thought of her seeing him in more pain. He sighed heavily, stumbling a little.
Enough was enough. Standing against the wall, he sighed heavily, waiting for Tali. He wasn’t going to make it to his room without some support. If he did make it without support, he risked injuring himself further. He was foolish, not stupid, he knew when to ask for help when he needed it.

”Yeah, your properly right” Tali agreed, rolling her shoulders abit. She wasn’t keen to admit it, but it had been a long, boring day, and she was kinda looking forward to getting to bed. She made a face at his comment ”Oh you’d like that, wouldn’t you!”. If Timothy wasn’t bad enough already, he would become unbearable if she actually lead him on!
Tali leaned back in the chair. She was tired, but suddenly became wide awake as Chanda stopped at the door. She felt a slight tingle in her head-tails, followed by soreness. He was in more pain than he would admit. She got up from the chair and followed him out, stopping just beyond the door to look around after him. She sent him a caring smile, before quickly going to his side. She didn’t say anything, she knew she didn’t have to, but just gently placed his arm over her shoulders. ”Ready?” she asked in a low voice, and waited for his sign before going. Her head-tails made things easier, because he wouldn’t have to ask for breaks along the way. She could feel when his pain got too bad and he needed a break.

Chanda nodded a little, beginning to walk. He took a hold of her shoulders leaning against her a bit, careful not to get close to her head-tails. “Sorry to have to do this… I seem to have underestimated this wound.” He muttered, reluctantly. He didn’t want her to help him, he didn’t want to seem weak, but he had no choice.
He couldn’t help but laugh a bit. He’d been closer to her in these last few hours than in all the time she had been with him. He shook his head a little, as they came to the door of his room. “Right uhh… You’re gonna have to help me in here… “ He smiled as he took out the key to his door. He slipped it into the lock and turned the key. Four maybe five locks unlocked and the door swung automatically open, revealing stairs that went down. Unlike the cellar these stairs went down further, and turned a corner, going down maybe two or three floors below the cellar. Chanda flicked a switch on the wall, lighting up gas lamps on the wall. There were many steps to go down, the reason it always took him a moment to get to the door. This was where he slept, made the toys and kept his private supply of alcohol. The wine rack stat embedded into an archway, filled to the top with wine bottles, except one bottle, that bottle sat on his desk, with a single glass next to it. The desk was full of papers, and piles of unsent letters. Across the room sat his workbench with a toy airship made from scrap metal and pieces of wood. Above the workbench sat shelves with many different toys, one of the toys was covered up with a cloth. In the corner of the room, sat the basic of beds, it looked like it had been pulled from a military barracks. One sheet and a flat pillow sat on it, neatly folded. It wasn’t a place to bring a woman maybe that was the point.
