The Story
Nobody ever knew much about the Beasts, but it didn't seem to matter much, because the great, ancient creatures mostly kept to the deep, uninhabited areas of the worlds and did not interact with the other species. But then some scientists got curious, as scientists do, and decided to set up a facility in one of the small, domed colonies down on the surface of Patria. The colony was situated beneath a larger floating city, and the two were connected by a large steampowered lift. This colony was ideal for the scientists' experiments, because it was near the edge of the inhabited portion of the planet, and so therefor closer to Beast territories. Slowly but surely, the scientists became established in the colony and began to gather research.
They found little useful information about the Beasts, but there was one thing that puzzled them. They found a gene that seemed to have no use whatsoever, but it exhibited some very bizarre characteristics that implied that it was not of natural origin. When the Council heard of the theory that the gene could not have developed naturally, they offered the leading doctor in the team his own practice and whatever he needed to study the gene. Building his lab deep in a system of caverns running beneath the surface colony (where he found that many different Beasts made their home), he captured a test subject and began to experiment on it.
The secret about this mysterious gene is that it was intentionally cultured by an ancient race. The gene itself controls the development and activation of an internal brain structure that allowed the ancient race, who were incredibly intelligent but flimsy and inefficient in combat, to telepathically control the Beasts in a war that they would have lost unless they took a measure such as this. The scientist was unaware of this fact, but managed to crack the gene and forced it to activate in the test subject. However, since there was no telepathic controller, there is no telling what the creature will do.
The Cast
The Scientist Team-- Canon One: The middle aged male scientist who heads the team. Slightly crazy, but a genius, and obsessed with his work. Will probably end up getting killed by his own obsession. Canon Two: The young female assistant. Clever, but nervous and clumsy. Canon Three: The concerned, friendly guard who was placed on the team to keep an eye on the scientists. Skeptical of the experiments, but genuinely caring and helpful.
The Council-- Tarquin Ny'yerees-- The rather twisted, greedy Council member. He weaseled his way into power, and has a way of getting what he wants no matter who it hurts. Canon Two: The gruff, massive male bodyguard of the Council member. Doesn't talk much, but smarter than he appears. May turn out to be a good guy, but maybe not.
The Beasts-- Canon One: The test subject of the scientists' experiments. A massive creature who becomes crazed by the activated gene. Canon Two: The Beast Elder. Little is known about this Beast, but he or she is the largest and oldest of the Beasts, and all of the other Beasts follow it's lead.
